Marriage and divorce can be registered online
The Law
and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs
has issued a notification vide S. R. O. No.- 92/Law/2025, dated- 24/03/2025
regarding the amendment of the Muslim Marriage and Divorce (Registration)
Rules, 2009. The Government, by virtue of the powers conferred by section 14 of
the Muslim Marriages and Divorces (Registration) Act, 1974 (Act No. LII of
1974), has made the said amendment to the Muslim Marriage and Divorce
(Registration) Rules, 2009.
According
to the said amendment, from now on, marriage and divorce registration can be
done online as well as through the manual method as before and in that case,
the registration fee will have to be submitted online. Till now, various types
of complications were created due to the possibility of registering marriage
and divorce in manual registration system. This amendment has been brought in
the said Rules in order to keep pace with the times and at the same time reduce
corruption and public harassment.
